How to put items on sale on Shopify: one product, a collection or the whole store
How to put items on sale on Shopify with compare-at prices: one product, one variant, a collection or the whole store, and how to end the sale cleanly.
Every sale targets one selection: all products, collections, products, specific variants, or one advanced condition on product title, tag, vendor, product type or SKU. Then you can exclude collections, products or variants, and the review shows exactly which variants are in.
summer-sale| Targeting | Use it for |
|---|---|
| All products | Storewide sales and price increases |
| Collections | A category, a season, a brand collection |
| Products | A hand-picked list, found by title or tag search |
| Specific variants | Only certain sizes or colors |
| Match advanced conditions | Everything whose title, tag, vendor, product type or SKU matches a rule |
Pick a field (product title, product tag, vendor, product type or SKU), an operator (contains, does not contain, equals, starts with) and a value. For example, "Product tag equals summer-sale" or "SKU starts with OUT-". The create page shows a live estimate of how many products match. A sale has one condition.
After targeting, choose one exclusion type: exclude collections, products or variants. For example, target all products and exclude a "New arrivals" collection, or target a collection and exclude two best-sellers.
For all products, collections and advanced conditions, each review loads up to 500 products and 2,500 variants. If your selection is larger, the review shows a "Preview capped" warning that not every item may be included, and suggests narrowing it. Split very large catalogs into several sales, for example by collection.
This is a preview safety limit, separate from your plan's monthly usage.
Yes. Target all products and exclude your new-arrivals collection (or the products themselves).
Not today. A sale uses one advanced condition and one exclusion type. Use a shared tag or SKU prefix, or run more than one sale.
Yes. Use "Specific variants" and pick the sizes or colors you want, or exclude variants from a broader selection.
One-time sales apply the products and prices from your review. Recurring sales read your current catalog at each occurrence.
